Posthumous Poem

Tiny foam pyramids

trumpeting

at the end

of branches:

the Japanese lilac

above us

settles its shape

inside you.

This is how life is:

when you turn

to face me, love,

don’t both sets

of leaves still go

buzzing along?

Okay, good. I think

we can go home now.
