dredge

moon crater billie jean

holds high notes in the belly

of indentation and sometimes

we fall too hard into reflection

pool and there are no mirrored

hands above to sift us out from

the sand and often there is no

sudden drop into the deep end

just a slight slant and we are gone

before we realize we’ve moved

an inch

sedation kicks in before the thrashing

and we are singing as mouth reopens

and bubbles are summoned upwards

when the lake is dredged the chord

progression will wane and you will

find that drowning is as much of

a song as finding the body

both rip through the throat

like a current until voice gets lost

on its way swallowed down
