The Heavier One
Each night you want to be held
the whole night. We start together.
I leave. Not for somebody else.
Your buoyancy rides the night
wave. I can’t hold you and sink.
I have to feel myself fall through
the mattress, the world. Speak
words I can’t hear myself say.
I wash up blank on lit morning
that spreads out on your skin
where you let my skin stay.
